In SUA are loc o intreaga disputa legata de introducerea asigurarilor obligatorii de sanatate, faimoasa Obamacare. Constienti inca de pe vremea lui Eddie Bernays ca lupta se va da pe taramul relatiilor publice, reprezentantii statului California au angajat gigantul Ogilvy sa se ocupe de cosmetizarea si promovarea acestei legi socialiste. Iar profesionistii marketingului si publicitatii au propus de la bun inceput introducerea de referinte pozitive in povestile contemporane. In termeni mai omenesti, asta inseamna ca serialele si showuri de teleziviune cu audienta relevanta (majoritatea ruleaza si la noi, deci peste tot) ca “Anatomia lui Grey”, “Modern Family”, “Dr Oz”, etc., vor fi scrise dintr-o perspectiva favorabila Obamacare. Dupa cum se poate vedea din lista mesajele sunt declinate pentru toate categoriile sociale. Campania nu se va opri aici iar oficialii guvernamentali spera sa convinga statiile de televiziune sa realizeze reality showuri in care sa prezinte, de pilda, situatia nefericita a familiilor care nu au asigurare medicala obligatorie. Nu este prima isprava de acest gen, si cred ca putem vedea aici mai mult decat o dezvaluire intamplatoare intr-o campanie politica. Marile redute in batalia ideologica au fost deja atacate si cucerite prin Holywood si MTV, iar contextul in care se poarta dezbaterea e colorat exclusiv in tuse progresiviste. Ca sa dau cateva exemple inspirate de propaganda din filme, cine se ma indoieste astazi de existenta extraterestrilor dupa succese precum “ET”, “Intalnire de gradul trei” sau “Ziua independentei”? Dupa atatea westernuri mai mult sau putin revizioniste cine poate crede ca Vestul Salbatic era altceva decat un paradis al pistolarilor nelegiuti? Lista poate continua mult si bine. Chiar si un serial aparent incorect politic precum “Mad Men” reprezinta in buna masura o pledoarie pentru decadenta, perfect congruenta cu spiritul vremurilor, in acelasi timp in care mitraliaza vremurile fara reglementari statale. Ce trece de ciurul propandistic al scolii publice e musai sa pice in plasa videodromului si a spindoctorilor platiti cu ora. “Manipularea constienta si inteligenta a opiniilor si obiceiurilor organizate ale maselor reprezinta un element important intr-o societate democratica. Cei care manipuleaza acest mecanism nevazut al societatii formeaza un guvern invizibil care constituie adevarata putere conducatoare a tarii noastre” (Edward Bernays, Propaganda 1928). |




Omul nu este doar un animal povestitor, ci si unul care traieste si isi defineste identitatea prin povesti. Din acest motiv, exista o preocupare vie si constanta pentru controlul naratiunilor contemporane. Ca sa citez un prieten mult mai intelept decat mine: “cine controleaza contextul narativ, controleaza lumea.” Si nu ma refer aici la vreun fel de cenzura impusa romanelor, mai ales ca ele oricum merg in directia care trebuie, ci in special la productiile de televiziune, cinematografie si muzica. Argumentele pentru aceasta teza se pot gasi cu usurinta in autori precum Alasdair MacIntyre, dar aici as vrea doar sa ma opresc asupra unei ilustrari la zi a acestei teorii.
